The S1000D specification is an international specification for creation, management, and publication of complex technical documentation for long-lasting products such as aerospace, defense an energy . The latest version, issue 6, consists of approx. 3700 A4 pages.  The specification is mandatory for many defense and aerospace projects but is also increasingly being used in the civil sector. As the S1000D is quite complex, it is mainly suitable for large documentation projects with many project partners. The presentation gives a short and concise overview of the structure, content, and usage of the specification and provides initial insights into the standardization method and why it is suitable for complex products.
