Your company may soon be unable to sell products in the EU unless each manufactured individual includes a Digital Product Passport (DPP). This presentation introduces DPPs, the information they require, and how technical communication teams can reuse existing content, metadata, and tools to deliver them efficiently. DPPs are structured digital content—similar to technical documentation—supporting sustainability, circularity, and regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle. Each passport is tied to a unique product and can include data such as identification, materials, durability, energy use, repair and recycling options, and legal compliance. This information must remain accessible to users via interfaces like QR codes and must always reflect the current product state. The urgency is clear: manufacturers must modernize documentation, improve data quality, and ensure consistent updates across design, production, use, and end-of-life. Technical communicators are key to enabling accurate, automated, and multilingual DPP publication while adding new strategic value through smart information delivery.
