When users seek help with product usage through manuals or chatbots, they often encounter content that does not apply to their specific task, product model, software/hardware variant, or user role. Users are forced to navigate through extensive content and make judgments about what is relevant. This leads to difficulties in finding the information they need and, in some cases, users act on irrelevant information that may cause harm—to people, equipment, and the environment.

Delivering accurate, filtered content is crucial for compliance and user safety with the new EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This presentation showcases a topic-based content delivery portal designed to improve user satisfaction by automatically filtering irrelevant topics based on task, product model, software/hardware variant, and role. Built on research into search behaviors, it ensures users receive only the information they need, improving efficiency, safety, and compliance in technical communication.

Takeaways

Automating content filtering ensures users access only relevant information for their product, version, and role, reducing errors, improving efficiency, and enhancing satisfaction in technical documentation.
