A soda fountain machine is sold all over the world, with each region having its own labeling conventions. The user guide and other information pieces need to have the correct labels attached to them, but you don’t want to write unique pieces of content for each region, and you don’t want guides showing information not relevant to the user. How can you create a guide that shows only the relevant labels based on the user’s region?
A web site shows information aimed at users who have achieved different certification or security clearance levels. How can you ensure that users see information they are allowed to see without duplicating information?
An automated system assesses and reports on information based on its adherence to regulations. How can you create a system that can easily assess adherence?
Taxonomy and metadata are critical to all of these use cases. In this workshop we will learn how to create a taxonomy blueprint for all required labels and then use those labels to define metadata that can be applied to structured content like DocBook and DITA XML standards.
Takeaways
Participants will be able to
- define a use case related to their regulated industry that can benefit from effective taxonomy and metadata management
- design a taxonomy blueprint that meets the use case
- map the taxonomy to metadata
Prior knowledge
The audience should have a fundamental understanding of structured content standards like DITA and DocBook. Experience with applying categories and labels is useful.
